Built in 1922, the historic Frank Evans High School was acquired by the board of Spartanburg Community College to create a downtown campus. This three-story Collegiate Gothic style masonry building was in a sad state and a major renovation and restoration was undertaken. Peachtree Construction Services was brought in to clean all the masonry and apply an environmentally friendly elastomeric sealer. As well, cracked and broken terra cotta pieces were repaired and missing pieces duplicated from the original by a master artisan in New Hampshire.
The building is now known as the Evans Academic Center. The center renovation was listed on the National Historic Register in 2012 and received an Adaptive Reuse Citation Award from the AIA in 2015
